Greatest Moments in BD History
- Ben Davis upset the Washington Continentals in 1965. Washington went on to win the 1965 State Championship. Bill Keller, a member of the Washington team later played in the ABA for the Indiana Pacers.
- 1978 Randy Whittman becomes the first Ben Davis Basketball player to be named to the Indiana All-Star Team.

- March 21, 1992 Ben Davis upsets #1 Anderson at the Hinkle Semi State. The #11 ranked Giants upset the #1 ranked Anderson Indians in the morning Hinkle Semi State Game before a standing room only crowd 96 to 87. Many have called this game one of the all time great shootouts in Hinkle Field house history. The Giants shot 53% from the field including 10 of 19 from 3-point range. Mike Brooks had 32 points and Scott George added 30 for the Giants.
- March 13,1993. Ben Davis becomes the first team since Shortridge, 25 years ago to win back to back Hinkle Regional Championships. The giants defeated #11 State ranked Franklin Central 48-43 in the morning game and then defeated #14 ranked Lawrence North 58-54 for the Championship.
- March 20, 1993 Hinkle Semi-state. For the second year in a row the 26-2, #5 ranked Giants upset 26-2, #1 ranked Anderson 71-62 to win the school's first ever Hinkle Semi State Championship and earn a first ever trip to the Final 4.
- January 10, 1994. For the first time in the school's history, the Ben Davis Giants are ranked #1 by the Associated Press and Coaches Poll.
- March 1, 1994 the #5 ranked 20-2 Giants Defeat #4 ranked 20-1 Brebeuf in a standing room only crowd first game of the 1994 Sectional. Brebeuf ended their 1994 season 20-2. Both losses were to Ben Davis.
- March 19, 1994 Ben Davis upset #2 ranked Muncie Central 60-49 to win back to back Hinkle Semi States and a return trip to the final 4. Crispus Attucks is the only other Indianapolis team to accomplish this feat.
- January 1995. The Giants become the first school in 40 years to three-peat as Marion County Champions. (1993, 1994, and 1995). Only three other teams accomplished this feat in the 79-year history of the Marion County Tournament.
- March 11, 1995. It was billed by the media as the game of the Century. Those that saw it will never forget it. For the first time in a long time people had to be turned away at Hinkle Field House. #1 ranked, 26-1, Ben Davis squared off against the #5 ranked 24-1 Washington Continentals before a standing room only crowd. Ahmed Bellamy hit a buzzer beating 3 pointer to seal a 77-75 victory.
- March 11, 1995. At the Hinkle Regional after defeating Washington in the morning game the Giants took on #14, 23-2, Cathedral. Up for grabs for the Giants were a record 4th straight Hinkle Regional Championship. It took two overtimes to accomplish this feat. James Patterson sealed the 67-65 victory in the second overtime with a buzzer beating put-back.
- January 1992-December 1996 Ben Davis Giants win 64 straight games against Marion County Schools.
- 1995 State Finals RCA Dome. For the 3rd straight year the Giants earned a trip to the Dome and another Final Four appearance. After defeating Jeffersonville 82-62, the #1 Giants took on #2 state ranked Merrillville. This is one of the few times in IHSAA history that #1 played #2 for the State Championship. The third time was the charm as the Giants defeated Merrillville 58-57 for the school's first ever State Championship. The Giants finished the season with a 32-1 record. The best won-loss record of any State Champion since 1923.
- April 1995. Damon Frierson was selected Mr. Basketball. James Patterson and Courtney James were also selected to the all-star team.
- March 9, 1996 Hinkle Regional. The Giants won their fifth straight Hinkle Regional by coming from 9 behind with four minutes to go to defeat #3 ranked Franklin Central, 62-59 in overtime. The Giants then defeated Lawrence North that evening 42-37 to set the record.
- March 16, 1996 Hinkle Semi-State. The unranked Giants become the first school in the 86 year IHSAA history of the tournament to reach the Final 4 in four consecutive years by defeating Anderson 52-47.
- March 23, 1996 State Finals RCA Dome. In one of the all time great finishes, the unranked Giants became only the 7th school in IHSAA history to repeat as State Champions. Jeff Poisel hit a 3 pointer at the buzzer in the 2nd overtime to upset #12 ranked, 24-1 New Albany 57-54.
- March 28, 1998. In the first year of class basketball, the unranked Giants fooled the experts when they won their 6thregional in 7 years by defeating Mooresville 56-54.
- February 10, 2001 The Giants defeat Lawrence North to go undefeated in the MIC and capture their first ever conference title.
- February 7, 2002 The Giants defeat Lawrence North to run their total to 14 straight MIC wins and their second straight undefeated conference title.
- March 8, 2003 Stanley Burrell hit a fade away three pointer at the buzzer to send the Giants into overtime against Brownsburg in the sectional championship game. The Giants prevailed 65-58 making Scott White the only head coach in Ben Davis history to win a sectional championship in the first season as head coach.
- March 8, 2010. The Giants defeat Pike, 68-60, in the Tech Sectional to break a seven-year Sectional Championship drought. Coach Curtis Wright’s team upsets the Red Devils and then takes on eventual State Champion North Central in the Hinkle Regional. The Giants lose in a hard-fought battle.
- March 7, 2013. Ben Davis senior guard Michael Beaty hits a full-court shot in an OT loss to Pike in the BD Sectional.
- March 11, 2017. Ben Davis upsets #1 North Central in the Southport Regional, 47-44. The Giants dismantle Connersville, 44-21, in the night game to win their first Regional since 1998.
- March 19, 2017. Senior guard Josh Brewer beats the buzzer at the Seymour Semi-State to defeat Castle, 74-71, and earn BD’s first Semi-State Championship and trip to the State Finals since 1996.
- March 26, 2017. Coach Mark James becomes the second Ben Davis coach to lead his team to the State Championship Game and the second BD coach to win it all as his Giants defeat Fort Wayne North, 55-52, to win the Class 4A State Championship at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
- March 9, 2019. After becoming the second first-year BD coach to win a Sectional in boys basketball, Don Carlisle leads his team to an upset of #2 Lawrence Central, 75-65, in the Southport Regional. The Giants defeat New Palestine in the evening game and win their second Regional in three years.
- March. 16, 2019. In front of a sellout crowd of 7,090, the Giants defeat Center Grove, 67-61, in the Washington Semi-State. Coach Carlisle becomes the third Ben Davis coach to lead a team to the State Championship Game and the first to do it in his first season.
- March 23, 2019. Making their second 4A State Championship Game appearance at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in three years, the Giants lose to #1 Carmel, 60-55. It’s the second state runner-up finish for the program.
- December 30, 2022. Top-ranked Ben Davis beats #2 Penn, 65-53, and NorthWood, 60-42, to win the Raymond James Hall of Fame Classic for the second time in school history. Senior Guard Sheridan Sharp makes the All-Tourney Team, and Sophomore Guard Mark Zackery IV is named the Tournament MVP by the voters.
- February 10, 2023. Ben Davis defeats Lawrence North, 62-45 to finish at 5-0 in the MIC and claim the school's third undefeated conference championship.
- March 1, 2023. The Ben Davis Giants defeat the Southport Cardinals, 62-46. That win in Sectional was the Giants 27th-straight victory. This surpassed the previous record of 26-straight wins from the end of the 1994/95 season into the start of the 1995/96 season.
- March 11, 2023, the top-ranked Giants defeat sixth-ranked Cathedral, 63-53, to move to 30-0 on the season and win the school's 10th Regional in front of a packed-out Southport Fieldhouse. It's only the second time the Giants have reached the 30-win plateau.
- March 25, 2023. The Giants capped off their first undefeated season in school history at 33-0 with a 53-41 win over the Kokomo Wildkats at Gainbridge Fieldhouse for their fourth State Championship. At the time, it marked the most wins ever by an undefeated team in IHSAA history. The 2022/23 Giants were the 14th undefeated State Champions in IHSAA history and were only one win behind tying the 1922/23 Vincennes Alices (34-1) for the most wins all-time in IHSAA history!
