January Students of the Month Announced
Each month Impact teachers can nominate a student who is demonstrating the Wayne Habits of Success. Each student selected receives a swag bag. Below are the winners and what their nominating teacher had to say about them.
Katie Vinelli–12th Grade
Listening with Understanding and Empathy: Here is what Tina Williams said about Katie. “Katie saw a new student who was unfamiliar with his surroundings and struggling with knowing what to do and where to go. Without waiting for staff to help or ask for a volunteer, Katie walked over to the student, calmed him and helped him find a place to sit, took him to his next area, and spoke reassuringly to him. Katie showed great maturity and understanding toward this student. Thank you, Katie, for seeing others and having an open mind and heart to help.”
Kamsi Michael-Igbo--11th Grade
Applying Past Knowledge to New Situations: Here is what Jessica Breedlove had to say about Kamsi. “Kamsi became my student assistant this semester to have an alternate reporting location that is his regularly scheduled study hall. I so appreciate Kamsi immediately jumping in to assist students with questions they have during work time. As an excellent math student, and a student who sat in their seats last year, his knowledge is like having a true student aide not just a general teacher’s assistant. I appreciate his willingness to help, his determination to not just sit still and giving my current students more access to getting their math questions addressed while at school!”
Jayla Bailey–11th Grade
Striving for Accuracy: Here is what Rachel Jones had to say about Jayla. “I could have used any of the Habits of Success to nominate Jayla. In every class that I have had Jayla, her work is always above and beyond. She is able to juggle all of her academic commitments better than most students, with amazing time management awareness. She is willing to help others, as she is quick to master content, and chooses to help peers do the same. Jayla is a wonderful decision maker, thinking through her options and the consequences. Jayla sets the standard for the BD Habits of Success.”
