MSD Wayne Celebrates 43rd Annual MLK "Expressions of Freedom" Awards Reception

MSD Wayne Celebrates 43rd Annual MLK "Expressions of Freedom" Awards Reception

On Tuesday evening, March 17, Wayne Township filled Chapel Hill 7th & 8th Grade Center for a truly special occasion — the 43rd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. "Expressions of Freedom" Awards Reception. The celebration brought together students, families, educators, and community members to honor the creative spirit and civic courage of Wayne Township's young people.

This year's theme, "Belonging: Be Seen. Be Heard. Be Valued." invited students from across the district to explore what it means to be truly seen, heard, and valued — and to carry forward Dr. King's vision of a world rooted in dignity and respect for all. Students rose to the occasion beautifully, submitting remarkable works across Multiple Literacies, Multimedia, and Performing Arts categories, representing schools from elementary through high school.

The evening opened with a warm reception where guests enjoyed refreshments and took time to view the stunning student projects on display. During the awards reception, each honoree was proudly presented with a plaque by Dr. Suggs — a well-deserved recognition of their meaningful work.

Congratulations to every student who participated in this year's contest. Your voices matter, your stories matter, and your vision for a better world inspires us all.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to the Wayne Township School Board, district cabinet members, building administrators, school sponsors, judges, Wayne Township Child Nutrition Services, and all of the caregivers and community members who supported and celebrated our students.
